{"id":22569,"date":"2026-06-18T16:37:41","date_gmt":"2026-06-18T16:37:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/?p=22569"},"modified":"2026-06-18T16:37:41","modified_gmt":"2026-06-18T16:37:41","slug":"abiodun-commissions-pharma-warehouse-says-30000-ogun-residents-receive-free-hiv-treatment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/index.php\/2026\/06\/18\/abiodun-commissions-pharma-warehouse-says-30000-ogun-residents-receive-free-hiv-treatment\/","title":{"rendered":"Abiodun Commissions Pharma Warehouse, Says 30,000 Ogun Residents Receive Free HIV Treatment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has disclosed that more than 30,000 residents living with HIV are currently receiving free antiretroviral therapy, counselling, and support services in health facilities across the state.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Abiodun made this known on Thursday in Abeokuta during the commissioning of the Pharma-Grade Warehouse of the Ogun State Drugs and Health Commodities Management Agency.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-22571 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/4fc6e68b-bba3-4a7f-96a6-6f5d44fb3b3d-300x200.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/4fc6e68b-bba3-4a7f-96a6-6f5d44fb3b3d-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/4fc6e68b-bba3-4a7f-96a6-6f5d44fb3b3d-1024x682.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/4fc6e68b-bba3-4a7f-96a6-6f5d44fb3b3d-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/4fc6e68b-bba3-4a7f-96a6-6f5d44fb3b3d-1536x1024.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/4fc6e68b-bba3-4a7f-96a6-6f5d44fb3b3d-2048x1365.jpeg 2048w, https:\/\/thenewsnow.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/4fc6e68b-bba3-4a7f-96a6-6f5d44fb3b3d-640x427.jpeg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He said his administration has recorded significant milestones in the healthcare sector by repositioning the state\u2019s health system for optimal service delivery, urging residents to take advantage of available healthcare services by visiting hospitals for proper diagnosis and treatment.<\/p>\n<p>According to the governor, the state government has continued to strengthen HIV prevention programmes, expand testing services, and implement measures aimed at reducing new infections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, more than 30,000 residents of Ogun State living with HIV are receiving free antiretroviral therapy, counselling, and support services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe continue to strengthen prevention programmes, expand testing services, and reduce new infections,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Abiodun commended the Global Fund for expanding access to HIV treatment in Nigeria and supporting tuberculosis diagnosis, malaria prevention, as well as the provision of life-saving medicines and health commodities.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the Fund\u2019s grants have particularly benefited women, children, adolescents, vulnerable groups, and underserved communities.<\/p>\n<p>Describing the newly commissioned warehouse as a strategic investment, the governor said the facility would enhance the storage, management, and distribution of essential medicines and health commodities across the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe facility will strengthen supply chain efficiency, reduce stock-outs, and ensure that medicines and test kits reach healthcare facilities and patients across the 20 local government areas in a timely manner,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Abiodun acknowledged that HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria remain significant public health challenges in the state but assured that his administration, working with development partners, is making steady progress through sustained interventions aimed at reducing their impact.<\/p>\n<p>Reaffirming his administration\u2019s commitment to eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV, the governor said efforts to combat tuberculosis have also been intensified through community outreach programmes, contact tracing, and hotspot mapping.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccess to diagnostic services, including screening, X-rays, and laboratory testing, has been expanded, while treatment remains free and accessible.
