You have been hostile to all opposition Parties, while supporting only the ruling APC political party, no matter its contravention of the democratic principles of ‘Equal Opportunity for All’. Your bias in favor of President Tinubu’s unpopular administration has made you yourself one of the most despised public figures in Nigeria today.

Let me remind you of your culpability :
Several reports of election manipulation and vote rigging trailed the May 2026 Primaries of the APC. The process was so disappointing that APC members, including President Tinubu’s daughter, Folashade Tinubu- Ojo ; a die hard party member condemned it as shambolic. You on the other hand saw nothing wrong. You monitored the sham, approved it and gave it a pass mark.

On your watch the APC can do no wrong even when it is clear to the world that the party is committing crimes against its members and against democracy in general.

In your effort to eliminate other political parties from participating in the 2027 elections, leaving only Tinubu and his APC the sole contestants in the 2027 elections, you altered the time for the submission of Party candidates. By drastically reducing the time allowed for submission from September 2026 to May 2026 you also sought to prevent potential candidates from leaving the APC to other parties to achieve their political ambition
.
Since you resumed office as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission,(INEC), you seem determined to reduce Nigeria to a One Party State.

Again and again you have disregarded court rulings which would have resolved the leadership issues in the PDP. In March 2026 the court ruling which nullified the PDP Ibadan Convention of 15/16 November 2025 also nullified Anyanwu’s claim to be the National Secretary of PDP. Typical of your bias against the PDP, you recognized the nullification of the PDP Convention but refused to accept the judgement that Anyanwu and company had no right to act for the PDP, having been suspended from office since 1st November 2025 and expelled from the Party thereafter.

On two more occasions you would exhibit your contempt for the courts. The Supreme Court ruling of 30th April 2026 said basically what the High Court ruled in March ; that the PDP National Convention in Ibadan was invalid, but that Anyanwu and his associates should stop parading themselves as members of the PDP. Despite the release of the Certified True Copy ( CTC) of the Supreme Court ruling which ordered you to remove Anyanwu and Abdul Salam as Secretary and Chairman of the PDP, you kept them on INEC’s files.

The latest case of your disregard for law and order came after the Court of Appeal ruling of 3rd June 2026. Mr Nyesom Wike and his cohorts had appealed the case in which the PDP sought to dismiss them as officers of the PDP. The appeal was rejected as the Court of Appeal ruled that indeed the suspension and expulsion of Anyanwu took effect from 1st November 2025 and remained intact to date. By inference, the convention, the officers elected and all decisions taken by the nullified Anyanwu and colleagues were null and void.

Unbelievably, Wike and Anyanwu claimed that the appeal favored them, and you, like a stooge, agreed with them and refused to delete them as representatives of the PDP. As we speak, your policies are already doing great damage to fair and credible democratic participation. In the upcoming State House of Assembly race in Kebbi State you have barred all parties from contesting except APC and Labour Party. In the June 20 2026 By -Elections to fill offices in six constituencies across the country, only APC is featured in all six. And even where PDP has a showing, the PDP candidate is not a bonafide member of the PDP, but an imposter who like Nyesom Wike has made it clear that they are in fact APC agents.

It is difficult to understand why an accomplished Barrister; a Professor of law, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria like you would treat court orders with so much levity. Are we to believe your University colleagues who allege that prejudicial behavior was always a part of your character. Could you be doing this due to a promise to please the APC because of the cash and land gifts which you are alleged to have received from Wike, the APC hatchet man. Or perhaps you are looking forward to being rewarded with an ambassadorship from President Tinubu like your predecessor, Dr. Mahmoud Yakubu.?

Let me conclude by reminding you of your responsibility as the Chairman of Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). and what Nigerians demand of you. 1. You must stop giving preferential treatment to the ruling party, All Progressives Party (APC). 2. You must treat all political parties equally, and encourage their participation in the electoral process, not go out of your way to discourage them . 3.You are an umpire, not an executioner. 4. You must begin to obey orders of the court ; on which note it is imperative that with immediate effect you expunge from the INEC register the names of Anyanwu and Abdulrahman, and replace them with those of Kabiru Turaki, PDP National Chairman and Taofeek Arapaja, PDP National Secretary .

Keep in mind that as Nigeria is a member of the World Democracies, you as the custodian of elections in Nigeria are a member of the World Committee of Democratic Electors. On our part, we the proponents of free, fair and credible elections in this country will hold you accountable to your oath to defend multi- Party democracy. If Nigerian courts fail to compel you to defend our democratic rights, we will take the case to the courts of the International Communities.

Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse.
