A large number of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency joined other aggrieved party members in a mega protest organized by APC members from the 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas across Lagos State at the APC Lagos State Secretariat, Acme Road, Ikeja, Lagos.<\/p>\n
The peaceful protest was convened to express the grievances of concerned party members and to draw the attention of party leaders, stakeholders, and the general public to what they described as the injustice meted out to Comrade Ayodele Adewale, former Executive Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government, former APC Lagos State Organising Secretary, former Lagos State APC E-Registration Coordinator and led Lagos State to first position on the APC table of the exercise. Comrade Adewale is also an APC House of Representatives aspirant for Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency; Hon. Seye Oladejo, APC House of Representatives aspirant for Mushin Federal Constituency; and several other aspirants and party members who, according to the protesters, were adversely affected during the conduct of the APC primary elections in various constituencies across Lagos State.<\/p>\n
Addressing the gathering, the protesters maintained that democracy within the party must be guided by fairness, transparency, due process, equity, and the rule of law.<\/p>\n
They emphasized that the integrity of the electoral process remains the foundation upon which the APC has built its credibility, legitimacy, and widespread grassroots support over the years.<\/p>\n
The aggrieved members stated that their action was not only in pursuit of justice for Comrade Ayodele Adewale, Hon. Seye Oladejo and other affected aspirants but also a broader call for the protection of the democratic rights of all party members whose voices, votes, and aspirations must be respected and protected. According to them, internal democracy remains the lifeblood of every progressive political party, while strict adherence to established electoral guidelines is essential for sustaining party unity, public confidence, and electoral success.<\/p>\n
The protesters further stressed that the strength of the APC lies in its commitment to accountability, fairness, equal opportunity, and the supremacy of party rules and democratic principles. They noted that no member should be denied a fair and transparent process irrespective of status, influence, or political affiliation within the party.<\/p>\n
The large turnout of party faithful from across Lagos State, they said, demonstrated the growing concern among grassroots members regarding the need to safeguard democratic values within the party. The protesters insisted that justice for one member is justice for all and that the future strength, unity, and electoral success of the APC depend on the consistent application of fairness, equity, transparency, and due process in all party affairs.<\/p>\n
While reaffirming their loyalty and unwavering commitment to the APC, the protesters expressed confidence in the wisdom and leadership of the party hierarchy to carefully examine their complaints and take the necessary corrective steps to ensure that justice prevails, party unity is strengthened, and the confidence of grassroots members in the democratic process is fully restored.<\/p>\n
The protesters concluded by calling on all party leaders and stakeholders to uphold the ideals upon which the APC was founded, stressing that a stronger, more united, and victorious party can only emerge when justice, fairness, transparency, and internal democracy are allowed to prevail.<\/p>\n
