For Climate. For Our Future,” brought together government officials, environmental stakeholders, industry players, students, and community leaders to discuss solutions to climate change and environmental degradation.

Oresanya explained that although the global observance of World Environment Day was marked on June 5, Ogun State postponed its celebration to June 9 to allow for broader stakeholder participation and deeper engagement on environmental issues affecting the state.

According to him, the theme underscores the need for governments, communities, industries, and individuals to draw inspiration from nature in addressing climate change, pollution, biodiversity loss, and other environmental challenges.

The commissioner highlighted several achievements recorded by the Ministry of Environment, including strengthened environmental compliance monitoring, improved pollution surveillance, enhanced waste management systems, promotion of cleaner production practices, and sustained environmental sanitation programmes across communities.

He added that the state has intensified climate action through tree-planting campaigns, ecosystem protection initiatives, stakeholder engagements, and strategic partnerships aimed at building climate-resilient communities.

A major highlight of the event was the promotion of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF), a waste-to-energy solution that converts combustible municipal solid waste into alternative fuel for domestic and industrial use.

Oresanya noted that the initiative would help reduce landfill pressure, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and decrease dependence on fossil fuels while creating a more sustainable waste management system.

The commissioner also disclosed that the government is investing in environmental education through Environmental Management and Climate Change Clubs in schools to equip young people with knowledge and skills in environmental stewardship, waste reduction, biodiversity conservation, and climate action.

As part of activities marking the celebration, clean cook stoves provided by the Federal Ministry of Environment were distributed to selected women beneficiaries.

According to Oresanya, the stoves offer safer and healthier cooking alternatives by reducing indoor air pollution, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and improving the wellbeing of women and children.

The clean cook stoves were presented by the First Lady of Ogun State, Bamidele Abiodun, whose support for environmental sustainability and women empowerment was commended by the commissioner.

While acknowledging progress made by the state, Oresanya identified climate change, urbanisation, industrial pollution, deforestation, and ecosystem degradation as major challenges requiring stronger collaboration and innovation.

He revealed that the ministry is advancing initiatives to strengthen climate governance, expand environmental data systems, improve monitoring technologies, promote sustainable industrial practices, and deepen public-private partnerships.

The commissioner stressed that environmental sustainability cannot be achieved by government alone, urging residents to embrace responsible environmental practices such as tree planting, proper waste disposal, energy conservation, and pollution reduction.

“Nature teaches us balance, resilience and sustainability. If we are truly inspired by nature, then these values must guide our policies, actions and lifestyles,” he said.

He called on all stakeholders to renew their commitment to building a greener, cleaner, and more prosperous Ogun State, noting that collective action remains essential to protecting the environment and securing a sustainable future for generations to come.

The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability and climate resilience, unveiling a series of initiatives aimed

[1

post-22470","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
