<\/p>\nThe Renewal Group has announced its endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term, while also urging him to undertake a comprehensive review of his cabinet to better deliver on campaign promises to Nigerians.<\/p>\n
The group also declared support for the candidacy of Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a media briefing in Maryland, the Convener of The Renewal Group (TRG), Engr. Lai Omotola, said the endorsement of President Tinubu was anchored on the principle of political rotation, arguing that the presidency should remain in the South for eight years following a similar tenure in the North.<\/p>\n
He added that having commenced economic recovery efforts in his first term, the President should be given another four years to consolidate reforms rather than risk a policy reset under a new administration.<\/p>\n
Omotola noted that despite prevailing challenges, Nigeria\u2019s democracy has endured for 26 uninterrupted years, stressing that there remains relative political stability between the executive and legislature. He also pointed to improved revenue allocation to states and a strong stock market performance as indicators of progress on the continent.<\/p>\n
He expressed optimism that President Tinubu would record a higher voter turnout in the 2027 general elections.<\/p>\n
On Lagos politics, the TRG convener described Dr. Hamzat as a seasoned administrator who would perform effectively if given the opportunity to lead, noting that Lagos remains the \u201cCentre of Excellence\u201d but faces mounting infrastructural pressure due to rapid population growth.<\/p>\n
He emphasized that any electoral victory within the party should be viewed as a collective achievement rather than a personal one.<\/p>\n
Omotola further stated that while opposition parties continue to enrich Nigeria\u2019s democracy, they lack a unifying \u201ctalisman\u201d capable of serving as a strong rallying point ahead of the 2027 elections.<\/p>\n
Reacting to aggrieved aspirants from the party\u2019s primaries, he urged them to remain calm and loyal, advising them not to take actions that could undermine the party but to wait for future opportunities.<\/p>\n
He also dismissed viral videos alleging irregularities in the primaries, describing some of the claims as false and misleading.<\/p>\n
On national politics, Omotola said Labour Party\u2019s Peter Obi lacks a concrete implementation framework to transition Nigeria from a consumption-driven economy to a production-based one.<\/p>\n
He stressed that Nigeria\u2019s economic revival depends on increased productivity, noting that growth would naturally trigger factory activity, infrastructure expansion, and private sector development, while the government\u2019s role remains creating an enabling environment.<\/p>\n
