Women in Akwa Ibom State have expressed strong support for the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, calling for a second term in office, during the 2026 International Women\u2019s Day celebration held in Uyo, the state capital. The event drew over 5,000 women and was graced by the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu.<\/p>\n

In her address, the First Lady highlighted this year\u2019s theme, \u201cRights, Justice, Action, for All Women and Girls,\u201d describing it as a call to action for women across Nigeria. She emphasized that safeguarding women\u2019s rights through access to education, healthcare, economic opportunities, social protection, and equity is a critical investment in the nation\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

\u201cProtecting the rights of women and girls by ensuring access to education, economic empowerment, health, social protection, and equity is an investment in our collective future,\u201d she said. \u201cI encourage every woman here to be a positive tool for change in your homes, businesses, communities, and state. When women lead with purpose, the entire nation feels the impact.\u201d<\/p>\n

The First Lady also lauded ongoing reforms under the current administration, noting that they aim to create a lasting legacy of transformation and prosperity for all Nigerians. \u201cA house is not built in a day, but when the foundation is solid, the structure will stand the test of time. Let us remain united and focused to protect the gains we have made,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended women for their pivotal role in family and societal stability, while Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno underscored that the success of any society is largely dependent on women.<\/p>\n

The highlight of the celebration was the formal endorsement of President Tinubu, Governor Eno, and the Senate President for second terms in their respective offices. The endorsement was publicly declared by the State Deputy Governor, Akon Eyakenyi, alongside other prominent women leaders in the state.<\/p>\n

Prior to the rally, First Lady Tinubu commissioned an ultra-modern Senior Citizens Center named in her honor. She described the initiative as a model for other states, emphasizing that a society that honors its elderly understands responsibility, gratitude, and continuity.<\/p>\n

The center, conceptualized by the late wife of Governor Eno, Pastor Patience Eno, will provide healthcare, recreation, and social support in a safe and dignified environment. \u201cI urge families and communities to continue showing love and support to their aging parents and relatives. Government can provide structures, but society must provide warmth and care,\u201d the First Lady said.<\/p>\n
