All arrangements have been concluded for the conduct of a hitch-free Local Government Congress on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress<\/span><\/a> in the original twenty local government areas of Lagos State<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Congress, scheduled to hold tomorrow (Saturday), is expected to produce new 27-man executives to pilot the affairs of the party at the council level.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking at a media briefing at the party\u2019s secretariat on ACME Road ahead of the exercise, the Chairman of the Ward and Local Government Screening Committee, Mr. Mumgji Salama, said the committee was delighted to carry out the assignment in Lagos, describing the state as the nation\u2019s pacesetter and home to the President.<\/span><\/p>\n

He urged party members to remain peaceful and law-abiding during the exercise, noting that those who are not qualified at this time will have another opportunity in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to him, he expects the Local Government Congress to be rancour-free, pointing out that there are indications that most executives will be returned on a consensus basis.<\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier, the Lagos APC Chairman, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, disclosed that the exercise would deepen democracy and further strengthen the party\u2019s internal structure.<\/span><\/p>\n

He described it as a sacrifice for members of the committee to serve at this crucial period, having left their homes to undertake the assignment.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hon. Ojelabi also appreciated the state technical committee for laying the groundwork for the team from the National Secretariat, Abuja, to conduct a seamless exercise.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to him, this is the last stage of preparations for the Local Government Congress scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday).<\/span><\/p>\n

The party chairman stated that the APC remains the only party that invites the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and allows the media to monitor its internal processes, in line with the provisions of the amended Electoral Act. He congratulated those screened to participate in the Congress.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ojelabi concluded that the Congress is a call to service, stressing that party leadership cannot function in isolation and that youths and women must be actively included in driving the party forward.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
