\nThe Muslim Community of Lagos State (MCLS) on Saturday held its 2026 General Assembly at the Conference Hall of the Lagos State Secretariat Central Mosque, Alausa, with leaders and delegates charting a common front on issues of governance, education, religious rights, and political participation.<\/p>\n

The Assembly, presided over by the President of MCLS, Alhaji Mohammed Oyinlomo Danmole, was held under the theme: \u201cIslamic Ethics and Good Governance: A Blueprint for Leaders and the Led in Contemporary Lagos.\u201d The gathering drew representatives of over 100 Islamic organisations from across the Lagos metropolis.<\/p>\n

In a strongly worded resolution, the Assembly agreed that the Muslim Community of Lagos State would not support any political party that presents a non-Muslim candidate for the governorship seat in the 2027 general elections. Members stressed the need for Muslims in the state to participate actively in politics and to rally support for Muslim candidates, particularly in the race for Governor of Lagos State.<\/p>\n

At the end of the deliberations, the General Assembly issued a comprehensive communiqu\u00e9 addressing key administrative, social, and religious concerns. Among the resolutions adopted was the provisional approval of the 2024 and 2025 Financial Reports, pending the conclusion of the ongoing audit exercise.<\/p>\n

The Assembly urged Muslims to exercise restraint and avoid discordant opinions, especially on social media, warning that internal divisions weaken collective interests. It also called on the Lagos State Government to ensure religious balance in the appointment and deployment of Tutor-Generals and Permanent Secretaries in secondary schools across the six education districts of the state.<\/p>\n

Concerns were raised over what the Assembly described as the marginalisation of Muslims in political appointments and in the management of health institutions in Lagos State. Consequently, the leadership of MCLS was mandated to engage governments at all levels on a continuous basis to safeguard and promote Muslim interests.<\/p>\n

On education, the Assembly appealed to the state government to urgently recruit Arabic and Islamic Studies teachers into public schools, lamenting the current shortage of Islamic education teachers across Lagos. Members also called on Muslim parents to expose their children to Islamic practices early in life as a means of entrenching spiritual values and moral discipline.<\/p>\n

In further resolutions, the Assembly unanimously mandated former executives of the association to submit and hand over all properties, documents, and records, particularly those relating to the scholarship programme. A new constitution of the Muslim Community of Lagos State was presented and adopted unanimously.<\/p>\n

The General Assembly also agreed on the establishment of a youth wing of MCLS, recognising the critical role of young people in sustaining the community\u2019s future leadership and advocacy efforts.<\/p>\n

Reaffirming its commitment to religious rights, the Assembly appealed to the Lagos State Government to fully respect and implement the Supreme Court judgment on the use of hijab by female Muslim students in public schools. In addition, reports on bills seeking to establish an Islamic Personal Court and a Shariah Court of Appeal were unanimously adopted.<\/p>\n

Islamic organisations represented at the General Assembly included Anwaru Islam, NACOMYO, Fathia, Jawadullahi Islam, MSSN, NADWAT, ASGAT, FOMWAN, Dawah Front, NUD, Union of Arabic Teachers, NASFAT, Association of Muslim Professionals, Ansarudeen Society of Nigeria, ACAOSA, Al-Qunar, Zumuratu Islamiyyah, NATAIS, The Academy, AZWAN, Hisbullahi, Islamic League, Criterion, and MAN, among others.<\/p>\n

The Assembly ended with a renewed commitment by participants to unity, purposeful engagement, and the pursuit of good governance anchored on Islamic ethics for the overall development of Lagos State.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
