The Government of Equatorial Guinea has reaffirmed its commitment to continually support the Maritime Organisation of West and Central Africa (MOWCA) in the organisation\u2019s drive to promote a sustainable blue economy across Africa.<\/p>\n

The country\u2019s Minister of Transport, Telecommunications and Postal Services, Mr. Evito Oma, stated this on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, when he hosted the Secretary General of MOWCA, Dr. Paul Adalikwu, on a working visit in Malabo.<\/p>\n

While reaffirming Equatorial Guinea\u2019s commitment to MOWCA\u2019s objectives and programmes, Mr. Oma commended Dr. Adalikwu\u2019s visionary leadership, declaring full support for enhanced technical collaboration between MOWCA and his Ministry for the benefit of the country.<\/p>\n

The minister also spoke on maritime trade facilitation within West and Central Africa, assuring that Equatorial Guinea would sustain its collaboration with MOWCA to advance maritime safety, security, and sustainable maritime transport across the West and Central African sub-region.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Dr. Adalikwu described the Republic of Equatorial Guinea as a strategic country, naturally endowed to be a key player in the African maritime space.<\/p>\n

He praised the government for its robust performance in the oil and gas sector and commercial shipping through its key ports, despite a few surmountable security challenges in the Gulf of Guinea.<\/p>\n

According to Dr. Adalikwu, Equatorial Guinea remains a significant offshore hydrocarbon producer in Sub-Saharan Africa, whose participation in maritime trade constitutes a major contribution to Africa\u2019s blue economy development.<\/p>\n

The MOWCA Secretary General also commended the country for its increasing participation in the organisation\u2019s programmes and decision-making processes.<\/p>\n

While briefing Mr. Oma on MOWCA\u2019s activities and future programmes, Dr. Adalikwu noted that Equatorial Guinea stands to benefit from maritime human capital development programmes supported by international partners, including the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the governments of Singapore and Malaysia, among others.<\/p>\n

He added that the country is positioned to be a frontline beneficiary of the proposed Regional Maritime Development Bank, particularly in vessel financing and maritime infrastructure expansion, upgrade, or development.<\/p>\n

Both parties concluded the meeting with a strong commitment to further strengthen cooperation between Equatorial Guinea and MOWCA.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
