The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has berated Labour Party\u2019s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, over his recent comments on what he described as the Federal Government\u2019s \u201creckless borrowings.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a strongly worded statement issued on Thursday by its spokesperson, Mogaji (Hon.) Seye Oladejo, the party dismissed Obi\u2019s remarks as \u201cempty moralizing\u201d and accused him of hypocrisy, incompetence, and contradictions in matters of finance and governance.<\/p>\n
Oladejo said borrowing in itself was not reckless, stressing that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, borrowings are tied to critical infrastructure, energy, transportation, and other productive sectors \u2014 in line with global best practices.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeter Obi has no moral authority to lecture anyone about prudence. As governor of Anambra, he left behind unpaid pensions, collapsing infrastructure, and poor human capital indices. His so-called savings were idle bank balances that created no jobs or improved livelihoods. Ironically, he boasted of investing public funds in breweries, yet today he preaches prudence,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n
The APC also recalled Obi\u2019s alleged offshore dealings exposed in the Pandora Papers, accusing him of double standards. It further criticized him for flying private jets during his presidential campaign while sermonizing about cutting costs.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnlike Obi\u2019s motivational-speech politics, President Tinubu is taking bold, necessary steps to reset the economy. Subsidy removal, currency reforms, and targeted borrowing are tough but inevitable measures to secure Nigeria\u2019s future. This is leadership in action, not empty soundbites,\u201d Oladejo declared.<\/p>\n
The statement urged Obi to \u201cconserve his health and stick to populist rhetoric and campaign slogans,\u201d insisting that on serious matters of finance and governance, he is \u201cout of depth and out of place.\u201d<\/p>\n
Concluding with a proverbial jab, the APC said: \u201cHe who knows nothing of iron should not enter the blacksmith\u2019s market. Tinubu is building Nigeria\u2019s future, while Obi is busy building soundbites. Nigerians know the difference.\u201d<\/p>\n
