The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed as laughable a recent statement by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in which it claimed to have the \u201cstructure and strength\u201d to unseat the APC in the 2027 general elections.<\/p>\n
In a strongly worded rebuttal issued on Wednesday, July 31, 2025, the spokesperson of the Lagos APC, Hon. Seye Oladejo, described the PDP\u2019s assertion as a \u201ccase of empty boasts and forgotten failures,\u201d accusing the opposition party of living in a political fantasy detached from Nigeria\u2019s current realities.<\/p>\n
\u201cOrdinarily, such political daydreaming would be dismissed as the routine rhetoric of an opposition party desperate to stay relevant. However, for the sake of public record, we find it necessary to set the facts straight,\u201d Oladejo said.<\/p>\n
The APC questioned what \u201cstructure\u201d or \u201cstrength\u201d the PDP was referring to, pointing to what it called the opposition\u2019s \u201cdisjointed, crisis-ridden, and fragmented formation\u201d that has struggled with internal divisions and mass defections since losing power in 2015.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is clear that the PDP is yet to recover from the political rejection it suffered over the past decade \u2014 a rejection rooted in its legacy of corruption, impunity, and squandered national opportunities,\u201d Oladejo stated.<\/p>\n
Contrasting the PDP\u2019s record with that of the APC, the party described itself as \u201cthe most formidable political movement in Nigeria today,\u201d citing its control of key states and its governance track record under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe same Nigerians who gave us their mandate in 2023 are witnesses to the significant strides being made by the Tinubu-led administration \u2014 particularly in economic reform, infrastructural renewal, digital transformation, and national security,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n
The Lagos APC accused the PDP of being stuck in a cycle of political nostalgia while failing to provide credible opposition or cohesive leadership. \u201cIf the PDP believes its press statements and internal wishful thinking can substitute for credible leadership, national cohesion, and visionary planning, then it clearly hasn\u2019t learned anything from its past electoral humiliations,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n
As 2027 approaches, Oladejo said the APC will once again present a record of tangible achievements and national unity, unlike what he termed \u201cthe recycled faces of yesterday\u2019s failures.\u201d<\/p>\n
He urged the PDP to focus on resolving its internal crises and playing the role of a credible opposition, rather than issuing what he described as hollow statements.<\/p>\n
\u201cNigeria deserves a credible opposition, not a party still chasing the shadow of its lost glory,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
