The leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has debunked claims circulating in the media that some of its national leaders and state chairmen were arrested for allegedly \u201cburgling\u201d the party\u2019s national secretariat.<\/p>\n
The party described the report, allegedly authored by Dr. Olu Agunloye, as \u201cmalicious propaganda\u201d engineered by suspended members and their external sponsors.<\/p>\n
In a strongly worded counter-statement released on Monday by Amb. Judith Shuibu, the National Publicity Secretary of the SDP, the party described the claims as \u201cfiction-laced,\u201d \u201cbaseless,\u201d and a desperate attempt to smear the reputation of loyal party leaders.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo such incident took place,\u201d the statement read. \u201cNone of our committed party leaders were involved in any unlawful act whatsoever. We are alive, free, focused, and more determined than ever in our mission to rescue and reposition the SDP for true democratic service.\u201d<\/p>\n
The party emphasized that the authors of the misleading statement, including Dr. Agunloye, no longer have any legitimate standing within the SDP, describing them as \u201csuspended individuals\u201d from a \u201cdissolved and now-defunct faction\u201d of the party.<\/p>\n
According to the statement, the party leadership under Comr. Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, which is recognized by both the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the party\u2019s National Executive Committee (NEC), remains the only authoritative body empowered to speak and act on behalf of the SDP.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey have lost legitimacy, they have lost INEC recognition, and worst of all, they have lost the moral right to speak for the Social Democratic Party,\u201d Shuibu said. \u201cTheir actions have exposed them for who they truly are \u2013 political merchants who seek to turn the SDP into a transaction tool for their selfish ambitions. But we say, never again!\u201d<\/p>\n
The SDP urged its members and supporters across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to remain calm and focused, while calling on the media and the public to disregard any further statements issued by Dr. Agunloye or his allies.<\/p>\n
The party also warned media outlets to exercise due diligence before publishing politically motivated statements and urged security agencies to maintain professionalism and neutrality in the face of internal political disputes.<\/p>\n
Concluding the statement, the party reaffirmed its commitment to internal reform and the protection of its founding ideals.<\/p>\n
