The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly condemned what it describes as a \u201creckless and tasteless\u201d statement issued by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accusing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of using the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari for political publicity.<\/p>\n
In a statement signed by the party\u2019s spokesperson, Mogaji (Hon) Seye Oladejo, the APC described the ADC\u2019s remarks as \u201ca new low in political desperation,\u201d and a deliberate attempt to exploit national grief for cheap political relevance.<\/p>\n
According to Oladejo, the ADC\u2019s comments show a blatant disregard for the memory of a former Head of State whose contributions to Nigeria\u2019s democratic and security architecture cannot be dismissed.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe ADC, in its rabid quest for relevance, has chosen to trample on national grief for a cheap headline,\u201d the statement read. \u201cThis statement is not only reckless and shameful, but it also grossly disrespects the memory of a national icon.\u201d<\/p>\n
The APC emphasized the long-standing alliance between President Tinubu and the late President Buhari, describing it as one rooted in \u201cmutual respect, democratic ideals, and nation-building.\u201d The party stated that President Tinubu\u2019s participation in memorial events and public tributes to the late leader were acts of loyalty and statesmanship, not opportunism.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is hypocritical and dishonest for any party, especially one as electorally irrelevant as the ADC, to lecture the APC on decorum or empathy,\u201d the party added. \u201cWhile Nigerians are in mourning, the ADC sees only an opportunity to stir controversy and provoke division.\u201d<\/p>\n
The APC called on the ADC to issue an immediate public apology to the family of the late President Buhari, the Nigerian people, and the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.<\/p>\n
The party also reaffirmed President Tinubu\u2019s commitment to unity, governance, national security, and economic recovery, stating that he remains focused on the future and will not be distracted by \u201cgutter politics.\u201d<\/p>\n
