The Chairman\/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. (Dr) Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Abigail Marshall Katung, on her induction into the Maryam Babangida Nigerian Women Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n

Hon Dabiri-Erewa in a statement signed by Gabriel Odu, described the recognition as a historic and proud moment not only for Katung and her family but also for the entire Nigerian diaspora community.<\/p>\n

She emphasized that this honour reaffirms NiDCOM\u2019s belief that Nigerians living abroad are global ambassadors whose achievements continue to uplift the country\u2019s image.<\/p>\n

\u201cAbigail Marshall Katung embodies the excellence, resilience, and leadership that we celebrate at NiDCOM. Her rise to become the first African-born Lord Mayor of Leeds is truly inspiring and worthy of this national recognition,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n

According to the NiDCOM Boss, the induction underscores the strength and contributions of Nigerian women in the diaspora and the importance of acknowledging those who are making significant global impact while maintaining strong connections to their homeland.<\/p>\n

Dabiri-Erewa further reiterated NiDCOM\u2019s commitment to honouring Nigerians worldwide who not only excel in their respective fields but also remain passionate about contributing to Nigeria\u2019s development.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis honour is a reminder that home never forgets. We hope this recognition inspires more Nigerians in the diaspora to remain connected, to return, and to invest in building the Nigeria we all desire,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

In response, Abigail Marshall Katung expressed deep appreciation for the honour, describing it as \u201ca deeply humbling recognition that connects me back to my roots in the most meaningful way.\u201d<\/p>\n

She applauded NiDCOM and the Centre for Women Development for celebrating Nigerian women in the diaspora who are making strides in leadership and social transformation globally.<\/p>\n

She also reaffirmed her commitment to fostering stronger ties between Nigeria and its diaspora, especially through the empowerment of youth and women in leadership across both spheres.<\/p>\n
