A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Fouad Alade Oki, has called on the leadership of the Governance Advisory Committee (GAC) to put an end to the controversy surrounding the change in leadership at the Lagos State House of Assembly.<\/p>\n

In a letter addressed to the GAC chairman, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, Oki urged party leaders to accept the decision of the Assembly, which recently replaced Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker. <\/span><\/p>\n

While acknowledging that the process may not have been perfect, he emphasized that the decision had already been made and should be respected.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is important to acknowledge that perhaps there were missteps in engaging with party leadership prior to this decision. However, we must recognize that the decision has been made, and it stands as a fait accompli,\u201d Oki wrote.<\/span><\/p>\n

He warned against allowing internal conflicts to further divide the party, which he noted was already struggling with internal cohesion. He also appealed for legislative independence, stating that any attempt to overturn the Assembly\u2019s decision could have negative consequences for the APC in the state.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe decision made by the Lagos legislature has garnered significant support from various sectors of society, including traditional, social, and human rights communities,\u201d he stated. \u201cIgnoring this sentiment could lead to political dangers that may jeopardize our party\u2019s standing and unity.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Oki further highlighted the importance of public opinion, warning that political parties that fail to align with the will of the people risk losing their legitimacy. He urged party leaders to listen to constituents, embrace necessary reforms, and avoid actions that could alienate voters, especially the younger generation.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe media has spoken on the popular wish of Lagosians, and as politicians, we must respond to media coverage and public discourse, adjusting our positions or strategies based on how issues are perceived by the public,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

He concluded by appealing to the GAC to sheath their swords and allow the matter to rest, stressing that unity within the party was paramount for continued electoral success.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs leaders, we must focus on building a stronger, more cohesive APC that reflects the aspirations of our people. The path forward may be challenging, but together, we can navigate these waters with grace and integrity,\u201d Oki added.<\/span><\/p>\n
