The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service successfully contained two separate fire incidents in quick succession on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, preventing significant damage to properties and ensuring the safety of occupants.<\/p>\n
The first incident was reported at 8:15 a.m. at 2, Ido Oluwo, Lagos Island, on the topmost floor of a three-story building within the bustling Docemo Market area.<\/p>\n
The fire was swiftly extinguished through the combined efforts of firefighters from the Ebute Elefun and Dolphin Fire Stations, much to the relief of the building\u2019s occupants.<\/p>\n
The second emergency occurred at 12:25 p.m. and involved a 33,000-liter diesel tanker supplying fuel to a hotel adjacent to the Okokomaiko Police Station along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.<\/p>\n
The fire, which posed a significant threat to the hotel and police station, was promptly managed by responders from the Ojo and Ijegun-Egba Fire Stations.<\/p>\n
According to the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, preliminary investigations revealed that negligence was a common factor in both incidents.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe first fire was caused by an electrical surge, while the second resulted from a safety violation by the tanker operator, who failed to allow the engine\u2019s power take-off to cool before resuming operations.<\/p>\n
