2027: Modele Sarafa-Yusuf Steps Forward with Inclusive Development Agenda for Ogun Governorship

As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, governorship aspirant Modele Sarafa-Yusuf has formally positioned herself as a strong contender for the top seat in Ogun State, unveiling a vision anchored on inclusive growth, institutional stability, and responsible leadership.

Sarafa-Yusuf, a seasoned media professional and former broadcaster with the Nigerian Television Authority, is seeking the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC), presenting what observers describe as a measured and policy-driven approach to governance.

Her aspiration it was gathered, is the product of extensive consultations across party lines, stakeholders, and grassroots communities in Ogun State.

Speaking on her ambition, Sarafa-Yusuf emphasised that Ogun’s next phase of leadership must go beyond rhetoric, noting that sustainable development requires deliberate planning, continuity, and trust between the government and the people.

“Ogun State must not only grow; it must grow in a way that carries everyone along,” she said, stressing the importance of inclusive governance.

Before venturing into partisan politics, Sarafa-Yusuf built a distinguished career in journalism, rising through the ranks as a respected voice in broadcast media. Her transition into public service saw her serve as Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, where she played key roles in policy communication and governance support.

At the core of her governorship bid is a multi-sectoral development plan focused on:
• Economic expansion driven by industrial growth and investment-friendly policies
• Youth empowerment through job creation and enterprise development
• Strategic infrastructure upgrades to support commerce and mobility
• Strengthening of public institutions for transparency and efficiency
• Restoring public confidence through accountable governance

On the sensitive issue of zoning and agitation for power shift within Ogun State, Sarafa-Yusuf has adopted a cautious but inclusive stance, advocating dialogue and unity over divisive rhetoric.

She warned that while equity remains important, the process of achieving it must not undermine the state’s stability or disrupt its developmental trajectory.

Sarafa-Yusuf previously contested for the APC governorship ticket in 2022 but accepted the outcome of the primaries without controversy — a move widely interpreted as a demonstration of party loyalty and political maturity.

While her candidacy comes at a time when conversations around female political representation are gaining traction, Sarafa-Yusuf has consistently maintained that her ambition is rooted in competence and preparedness rather than symbolism.

She insists that leadership should be defined by capacity and vision, not gender, positioning herself as a unifying figure capable of steering Ogun State through its next phase of development.

With political permutations already taking shape, her entry adds a significant dimension to the Ogun governorship race, particularly within the APC, where competition for the party’s ticket is expected to be intense.
