Residents Applaud Coker-Aguda LCDA’s Indefinite Ban on Tricycles Over Cult Killings
Some residents of Coker-Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have commended the decision of the authorities to impose an indefinite ban on the operations of tricycles, popularly known as Marwa, within the area.
The ban was announced after an extensive stakeholders’ security meeting following cult-related killings carried out with the use of tricycles in the Orile area of the council.
At least seven people have been killed since the deadly cult clashes began a few months ago in Orile, a community within Coker-Aguda LCDA.
Residents, in separate interviews, disclosed that the attacks by rival cult gangs had almost paralysed socio-economic activities in the area, making life miserable for them.
They also appealed to the authorities in Coker-Aguda LCDA to intensify actions in collaboration with security agencies to curb the ugly trend by apprehending the cultists and bringing them to justice.
However, a source from the council, who was not authorised to speak on the matter, revealed that gradual peace is returning to Orile following the announcement restricting the operations of tricycles in the area.
The source also assured that the restriction would be lifted once normalcy is fully restored.
The authority of Coker-Aguda LCDA, in a recent statement, said the decisive action forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security and maintain public order within the local council.
It noted that security agencies have been directed by the Executive Chairman to restore law and order in Orile community and Coker-Aguda in general.
