THE MONTHLY STATE ENVIRONMENTAL EXERCISE HAS NOT RESUMED- LASG

The Lagos State Government on saturday refuted an online media story that the state has resumed the monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise.

In a statement by the State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, he stated that no categorical statement has been made on the date of commencement.

According to him, what he told newsmen after a project inspection tour last Sunday was that engagement with all stakeholders were still ongoing.

He expressed the belief that the exercise may return very soon but that date will be officially communicated by Mr Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

β€œThe truth is, we were meant to start with a sensitisation programme last week, but we had a logistics issue. We need to find a day that is acceptable to all stakeholders”.

He urged all law abiding citizens to continue to go about their businesses without let or hindrance, insisting that if the exercise will be reintroduced, residents will be duly notified.

The monthly environmental sanitation, previously held on the last Saturday of every month from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., was suspended in November 2016, with the government following legal pronouncement on the restricting of movement.

However, resurgent waste management issues, including clogged drainage channels and indiscriminate dumping of refuse, have prompted massive calls for its return.
