Success of UNILORIN: Pro-Chancellor Aluko Commends Ilorin Emirate for Total Support and Acceptance

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, University of Ilorin, His Excellency Surv. Abiodun Jacob Aluko, has commended the people of Ilorin Emirate for wholeheartedly embracing the University as their own.

Surv. Aluko gave the commendation on Tuesday while receiving the National President of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Alhaji Abdulmumini Ayo Abdulmalik, in his office.

The Pro-Chancellor noted that his experiences as a member of Governing Councils of several universities before his current appointment clearly demonstrated that the Ilorin Emirate community are exceptional hosts who maintain an excellent relationship with the University.

Surv. Aluko, a former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, said the prevailing peace on campus and the University’s remarkable achievements are closely linked to its cordial relationship with its host community.

He expressed appreciation to the people of Ilorin Emirate for their consistent support to the University and also thanked the management of the Ilorin Central Jumaat Mosque for its decision to build a 250-bed hostel within the University, among other notable contributions.

He praised the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN; the Registrar, Mr. Mansur Adeleke Alfanla; and other Principal Officers for leading the institution toward sustained greatness.

Speaking glowingly of His Royal Highness, Mai Martaba the Emir of Ilorin, Surv. Aluko assured the IEDPU— the umbrella socio-cultural organisation of the Ilorin Emirate—that the Governing Council and the University Management would continue to work closely with the host community for mutual benefit.

Earlier in his remarks, the National President of IEDPU, Alhaji Abdulmumini Ayo Abdulmalik, appreciated Surv. Aluko for maintaining a harmonious working relationship with the University administration.

Alhaji Abdulmalik, an alumnus of the University, congratulated UNILORIN on its golden jubilee anniversary and commended the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Egbewole, for steering the institution in the right direction.

He recalled that many indigenes of the Emirate, alongside stakeholders from the old Kwara State and across Nigeria, played key roles in the establishment of the University. He added that the Union has always been eager to collaborate with successive administrations to ensure a peaceful environment conducive for learning, and to maintain a strong bond between the University and its host community.

He noted that the Union had earlier written a congratulatory letter to the Pro-Chancellor shortly after his appointment.

Alhaji Abdulmalik pledged that the host community would continue to support the institution in the pursuit of its objectives and urged the University to remain responsive to the yearnings of its host community.

The IEDPU President was accompanied by his Deputy, Alhaji AbdulRauf Babatunde Issa; the National Secretary, Abubakar Imam; the National Auditor, Mr. Adam Olumide Alabere; and Mr. Habeeb Atanda.
