Improved Traffic Flow at Apapa Port Area: LASTCOC Applauds NPA Management for Effective Monitoring

By Raheem Ibrahim

Motorists plying the Apapa Port corridor have begun to experience relief from the persistent gridlock that has long plagued the area, following renewed efforts by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to intensify monitoring and control of truck movements.

The Lagos State Truck and Cargo Operators Committee (LASTCOC) has commended the proactive, round-the-clock presence of the Apapa Port Manager, noting that his direct involvement has significantly improved traffic flow and eased the movement of export-bound trucks into the Lagos Port Complex (LPC).

The latest intervention comes in the wake of repair works on the Marine Bridge by the Federal Ministry of Works, which recently triggered a surge in congestion along the Ijora–Apapa access route, leaving several import and export trucks stranded for hours.

In a statement, LASTCOC Chairman, Mr. Shittu Lukmon, acknowledged that the 24-hour engagement of NPA leadership has substantially improved traffic conditions on port access roads and eased pressure at Export Processing Terminals (EPTs) across Lagos.

He noted that despite ongoing construction activities, the NPA management has maintained seamless movement of inbound and outbound vehicles along the Apapa corridor, effectively minimising delays associated with the repairs.

Lukmon praised the Apapa Port Manager’s dedication and hands-on leadership style, describing his commitment as unprecedented.

“This is commendable work from the Apapa Port Manager. I have never seen a port manager like him. I’ve seen him at the port on Saturdays and Sundays, ensuring the entire system runs seamlessly,” he said.
