Lagos APC Slams Aregbesola Over Anti-Party Remarks at ADC Event
The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned former Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, for comments made against the party during an African Democratic Congress (ADC) membership drive in Kosofe Local Government Area.
Aregbesola, who served as Osun State Governor and later as a minister under the APC-led federal administration, reportedly accused the APC and other major political parties of failing Nigerians, while canvassing support for the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Reacting in a statement on Tuesday, the Lagos APC Publicity Secretary, Mogaji (Hon.) Seye Oladejo, described the remarks as “disappointing” and “a betrayal of trust,” accusing the former minister of political desperation and opportunism.
“It is ironic that a man who enjoyed the goodwill and platform of the APC for over two decades—from his days as Commissioner in Lagos to becoming Governor of Osun State and later a Federal Minister—can now publicly denounce the same party,” Oladejo stated.
The party dismissed Aregbesola’s so-called “new deal” agenda under the ADC as recycled rhetoric lacking substance, structure, and credibility. It insisted that Lagos remains a model of progressive governance with achievements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, youth empowerment, and technology-driven reforms.
Oladejo further stressed that while individuals are free to pursue their political ambitions, it should be done with “integrity and decorum,” warning that politics without loyalty and gratitude is a “dangerous path that leads to irrelevance.”
Reaffirming its unity ahead of the 2027 polls, the Lagos APC said it remains committed to delivering the dividends of democracy to residents, urging Nigerians to be wary of politicians who abandon the party only when their personal ambitions are no longer served.
