Lagos APC Dismisses Atiku’s Claim of EFCC Targeting Opposition

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected allegations by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that the Presidency is using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to silence opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement on Monday, the party’s spokesman, Mogaji (Hon.) Seye Oladejo, described Atiku’s claim as “baseless and misleading,” accusing the former presidential candidate of attempting to “malign the integrity of national institutions for cheap political gain.”

Oladejo maintained that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration remains committed to upholding the rule of law and the independence of anti-graft agencies. He stressed that the APC has no control over the EFCC’s operations, which he said are guided strictly by credible intelligence and evidence, regardless of political affiliation.

“It is particularly disturbing that a former Vice President who once claimed to be a champion of anti-corruption is now attacking the very institutions working to sanitize Nigeria’s political and economic landscape,” Oladejo said. “Those who have nothing to hide should have no reason to fear.”

The Lagos APC urged Atiku to focus on addressing questions surrounding his own public record rather than “peddling unfounded conspiracy theories.” The party further stated that it does not require “underhanded tactics” to secure electoral victory, insisting it enjoys the confidence of Nigerians through “purposeful governance, infrastructural development, and social investment” under President Tinubu.

Oladejo also called on Nigerians to disregard Atiku’s comments and support ongoing efforts to build “a safer, more prosperous, and corruption-free nation.”
