By Raheem Ibrahim
No fewer than 68 suspected criminals have been arrested by police operatives in Lagos for allegedly engaging in various crimes within the last month.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos Command, CP Moshood Olohundare Jimoh, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on Monday on his achievements in the past month. He stated that the suspects had undergone thorough interrogation and were confirmed to be involved in one or more criminal activities across different parts of the state.
According to him, the alleged crimes include murder, grievous harm, armed robbery, cultism, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, advance fee fraud, kidnapping, vehicle theft, illicit drug offences, and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
He said, “From these cases, we recovered a total of four vehicles: two minibuses, an unregistered Toyota Camry, a Toyota RAV4, and a Mercedes-Benz E350; 17 firearms, including English pistols, a Beretta pistol, an AK-49, and several locally made pistols; as well as 99 rounds of ammunition of various calibers. We also recovered 19 phones, including a TECNO Spark 20, six laptops and tablets, five identification documents — including naval IDs and a WAEC card — two vehicle plate numbers, and several other items such as a bulletproof vest, axes, hammers, concrete blocks, broken bottles, and POS machines.”
The CP further disclosed, “We also recovered scam-related documents revealing fraudulent transactions worth over ₦500 million, in addition to other evidential items. All recovered items have been properly secured and documented.”
While appreciating the Federal and Lagos State Governments, as well as the Inspector General of Police for their support since he assumed duty in Lagos, CP Jimoh commended Lagosians whose timely information and credible intelligence aided the command’s successes.
“All police officers of the command are equally appreciated. I hereby encourage them to keep up the good work and continue to sustain the trust and confidence that the Lagos State Government and the good people of Lagos have reposed in us,” he said.
Breaking down his achievements further, CP Jimoh noted that during the recent local government elections in the state, a pre-election joint “Operation Show of Force” was carried out on July 10, 2025, across all strategic areas — including land and waterways.
He said the operation, led by himself in collaboration with the military and other security agencies, was aimed at boosting public confidence and demonstrating operational readiness.
“During the just concluded local government elections, a joint patrol involving myself, heads of the military, and other security outfits in Lagos ensured that there were no serious crimes or disruptions. Minor incidents were promptly addressed, and the overall security atmosphere remained calm and peaceful,” he concluded.
