MSSN LAGOS STATE AREA UNIT CELEBRATES EID-UL-ADHA WITH CALL FOR COMPASSION, SACRIFICE, AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!
The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Area Unit, extends heartfelt greetings to all Muslims on the occasion of Eid-l-Adha. This sacred festival, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the profound act of devotion and obedience demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim (AS) when he was willing to sacrifice his son in submission to Allah’s command.
Eid-l-Adha is a time to reflect on the values of compassion, sacrifice, and sharing. It is a reminder for us to give generously to those in need and to strengthen the bonds of unity within our communities. As stated in the Quran, “Their meat will not reach Allah, nor will their blood, but what reaches Him is piety from you” (Surah Al-Hajj 22:37). This verse underscores that the essence of our sacrifices is the sincerity and devotion behind them.
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) also emphasized the importance of charity and caring for others. He said, “The best of people are those who are most beneficial to people” (Sahih Al-Bukhari). This Hadith encourages us to be mindful of the needs of our fellow humans, especially during this period of celebration.
As we observe Eid-ul-Adha, we urge all Muslims to uphold environmental responsibility as an integral part of our celebration. While we engage in the noble act of sacrifice, it is equally important to ensure that our practices do not harm the environment or pose risks to public health.
We encourage the proper and sanitary disposal of animal waste and by-products to prevent environmental hazards such as flooding, erosion, or the spread of diseases. Let us ensure that abattoirs, homes, and public spaces are kept clean and that refuse is disposed of only in designated locations.
Furthermore, we appeal to all celebrants to adopt hygienic practices in the handling, processing, and preparation of food during this festive period. This will not only preserve the environment but also safeguard the health and well-being of our families and communities.
The safety of our environment is a shared responsibility. As Muslims, our faith teaches us to maintain cleanliness and to avoid actions that may cause harm to others or the society at large. Let us embody these principles in our conduct during this period and beyond.
Above all, let us seize this opportunity to renew our commitment to the teachings of Islam — compassion, generosity, discipline, and communal harmony. We pray that Allah (SWT) accepts our sacrifices, forgives our shortcomings, and showers His abundant mercy upon us all.
Eid Mubarak!
