First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Urges Collective Action to End Plastic Pollution on World Environment Day 2025

The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, has called on Nigerians—especially the youth—to take urgent and united action to combat plastic pollution, one of the most critical environmental issues facing the world today.

In a statement released to mark this year’s World Environment Day, themed “Ending Plastic Pollution”, Senator Tinubu emphasized the need for responsible consumption and proper disposal of plastic products.

She noted that Nigeria, like many nations across the globe, must tackle the growing threat of plastic waste to protect the environment, public health, and future generations.

“Plastic pollution has become one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time, affecting our health, our environment, and our future,” she said.

The First Lady urged Nigerians to re-evaluate how they consume packaged food items and dispose of plastic bags and containers.

She also made a special appeal to young Nigerians, encouraging them to take active roles in promoting cleaner and greener communities.

“I particularly want to speak to our youth, the leaders of tomorrow. Be it in schools or within our neighborhoods, each of you has a role to play in creating a cleaner, healthier, and greener Nigeria,” she stated.
