Lagos APC Inaugurates Reconciliation Committees to Address Post-Primary Disputes Ahead of LG Polls
In a decisive move to restore unity within its ranks ahead of the forthcoming local government elections, the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated reconciliation committees across the state’s senatorial districts.
The initiative is aimed at resolving disputes, grievances, and dissatisfaction that trailed the party’s recently concluded primary elections for council and chairmanship positions.
The decision follows numerous protests and petitions submitted to the APC Appeal Committee over the conduct and outcomes of the primaries. After considering the Appeal Committee’s report, the party leadership resolved to activate its internal conflict resolution mechanism to foster unity and cohesion ahead of the elections.
The reconciliation effort has been decentralized to enable the timely delivery of results and ease of operation across the state.
The reconciliation committees are as follows:
- Lagos East Senatorial District:
Headed by Dr. Lateef Ibirogba, with members Saheed Afonja, Sumbo Onitiri, and Sade Bakare. - Lagos Central Senatorial District:
Led by former Deputy Governor Chief (Mrs) Sarah Sosan, with members Funso Ologunde, Adedoyin Banjo, and Adigun Olalekan. - Lagos West 1 Senatorial District:
Chaired by Otunba Bode Oyedele, with Chief Jide Damazio, Alhaji Aleshinloye, and Comfort Olalere as members. - Lagos West 2 Senatorial District:
Headed by Alhaji Mutiu Are, with Hon. Jumoke Okoya, Otunba Kehinde Adeniyi, and Adeola Rashidat serving on the team.
State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, expressed confidence in the capacity and experience of the committee members, noting that they represent a broad spectrum of interests within the party. He charged the committees to be diligent in their assignment and ensure that all aggrieved members are heard and pacified.
“Our goal is to go into the elections as a united front,” Ojelabi said. “We are optimistic that this reconciliation process will reaffirm our party’s strength and internal democracy.”
The committees have been given a two-week deadline to submit their reports.
