Children’s Day: NASFAT calls for united action to secure brighter future for Nigerian children
In a heartfelt address on Children’s Day, the President of NASFAT, Dr Ayodeji AbdulWahid AbdulRauf, underscored the critical importance of nurturing and protecting every child in Nigeria and beyond. He urged citizens and stakeholders to commit to creating safe, healthy, and empowering environments that enable children to realize their full potential.
“No matter how, what or where they are born into, every young child in Nigeria and the world at large deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and realize their dreams in a safe and healthy environment.
“From ensuring they are cared for and nourished to helping them become educated participants in our democracy, we must all do our part to support the next generation of leaders,” AbdulRauf stated in a remark shared with our correspondence on Tuesday.
Highlighting NASFAT’s ongoing initiatives, Dr AbdulRauf detailed efforts by the National Children Committee to promote healthy lifestyles, reduce childhood obesity, and improve access to quality, affordable childcare and early education.
He also underscored the organisation’s commitment to environmental protection, advocating for cleaner air and water to safeguard children’s health and calling for reforms in juvenile justice to support youth accountability without perpetuating cycles of incarceration.
“Education has the potential to unlock ladders of opportunity and empower children to pursue their passions, and we must continue working to strengthen our nation’s education system for children at every grade level,” he added.
Dr AbdulRauf concluded with a call to action, “On Children’s Day, let us forge a future of greater opportunity and prosperity for every young person, and let us seek to reach our greatest potential as a Nation by ensuring our daughters and sons can live up to theirs. I call upon all Nigerian citizens to observe this day with appropriate activities, programs, and ceremonies and to rededicate ourselves to creating the bright future we want for our nation’s children.”
He thereby prayed for divine guidance and protection for children and strength for parents and government to provide the necessary support for their growth and development.
