Assault On Taxi Driver At Ketu: Lagos Police Command Arrests, Detains the Alleged Inspector of Police for Disciplinary Action

The Lagos State Police Command has identified and detained its Inspector who allegedly battered a taxi driver in public at the Ketu area on Sunday morning.
Reacting to the incident that went viral online, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said:
“The attention of the Lagos State Police Command has been drawn to a disturbing incident involving an Inspector of Police, Obic Modestus, who was captured on video assaulting a taxi driver in public.”
“The incident occurred on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at approximately 11:40 a.m. in the Ketu area of Lagos,” the Police spokesman revealed.
In a statement issued by the PPRO on the matter, he disclosed that the Inspector, who is attached to the Ketu Division, has been identified and brought to the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) of the Command.
“He has since been handed over to the Provost Department for detention, orderly room trial, and further disciplinary action in accordance with the Nigeria Police Force’s internal regulations. The outcome of the trial will certainly be made public,” he assured.
He stressed further: “The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Owohunwa Jimoh, has reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on unprofessional conduct and acts of incivility toward members of the public. Such behavior is unacceptable and does not reflect the values and standards of the Nigeria Police Force.”
The Lagos State Police Command assures the public that a thorough investigation will be carried out into the incident and that appropriate disciplinary measures will be applied to ensure justice is done.
He remarked: “The Command remains committed to upholding professionalism, accountability, and respect for the human rights and dignity of all Lagosians. Further updates on this matter will be communicated to the public in due course.”
