GOVERNOR MUTFWANG COMMENDS NEMA’S SWIFT INTERVENTION IN BOKKOS ATTACK AFTERMATH
The Governor of Plateau State, Mr. Caleb Mutfwang, has commended the prompt response of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in providing critical support to individuals affected by the recent attacks on several communities in Bokkos Local Government Area.
Speaking in Jos during a visit by the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, Governor Mutfwang — who was represented by his deputy, Ngo Josephine Piyo — expressed deep appreciation for the concern and swift intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who directed NEMA to mobilize relief efforts to ease the suffering of the affected populations.
The Governor reiterated the Plateau State Government’s commitment to partnering with NEMA to address the pressing needs of displaced persons, while also sustaining efforts toward fostering peaceful coexistence across the state.
In her response, the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, represented by a high-level delegation led by the North Central Zonal Director, Mr. Aliyu Waziri, stated that the Agency had conducted a rapid needs assessment at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps. Based on the findings, essential relief items were promptly delivered. The list of approved relief materials was formally presented, with assurances that distribution would be carried out directly to beneficiaries both in IDP camps and host communities.
He also conveyed the unwavering commitment of the Director General of NEMA for the Agency to work with the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency to conduct detailed assessment in the affected communities and subsequently towards the recovery of the displaced persons in line with the directive of the President.
The team comprised of the Director Search and Rescue, NEMA, Air Commodore Abang Oyong and some senior operational staff of the Agency. The team members also visited some of the injured victims receiving treatment at the Plateau Specialist Hospital to offer reassurance of the Federal Government’s concerns over their condition.
At the hospital, the NEMA delegation was received by the Chief Medical Director, Professor Christopher Yilgwan, who led the team to visit the injured persons currently undergoing treatment.
Similarly, in Bokkos town, the NEMA team was received by the Local Government Chairman, Mr. Amalau Samuel, and other local officials. At the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church IDP camp, Mr. Waziri delivered the sympathy of DG NEMA to the IDPs and officially handed over the relief items to the Local Government Chairman for onward distribution.
In his remarks on behalf of the displaced persons, Mr. Amalau expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Tinubu and NEMA for their timely intervention. Several IDPs who spoke also appreciated the support provided by the Federal Government, describing it as a much-needed relief during this challenging period.
The items delivered were food and non food supports to ameliorate the plights of the IDPs living in the camps and host communities.
