Nigeria’s First Lady Elected to OAFLAD Steering Committee

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been elected as a member of the Steering Committee of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), the highest decision-making body of the organization.

Her election took place during the 29th Ordinary General Assembly of OAFLAD, currently ongoing in Addis Ababa, on the sidelines of the 38th Ordinary Session of the African Union Summit.

She joins the eight-member Steering Committee as one of the two representatives from West Africa. Other elected member nations include Sierra Leone, whose First Lady is the new President of the organization; Angola, whose First Lady is the Vice President; as well as Malawi, Kenya, Ethiopia, Equatorial Guinea, and Congo.

Senator Tinubu will serve in this new position for a two-year tenure.

Already a strong voice within OAFLAD, the First Lady is expected to further advance the organization’s advocacy initiatives in line with its 2025–2030 Strategic Framework.
