Lagos set to Unveil LRP for Seamless Payment of Taxes, Bills; block Leakages in Collection
In a bid to remove all bottlencecks around the payment of Taxes and all other legal Bills in Lagos, the State Government has concluded plans to unveil the Lagos Revenue Portal to symplify how residents and corporate bodies perform this civic responsibility.
The iniative is expected to to make the process of making payments for all services rendered by government Ministry, Parastatals and Agencies seamles, efficient, convenient as well as blocking leakages in the process.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Taxation and Revenue, Mr. Abdukabir Opeyemi Ogunbo disclosed this at the media briefing held the the Elephant House, Alausa-Ikeja.
He said that the LRP was another milestone in the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu with the use of Technology to streamline the collection process into a more friendly and accessible self service portal for everyone in the state.
According to him, the LRP aggregates all Lagos State Bills and payments making it a One Stop Shop for all taxpayers which allows them to manage, make payments and print their Bills online through multiple channels like Card, Bank Transfer, POS, USSD and QR Code.
He noted that the initiative eliminates the need for physical visits to Lagos state service stations and banks thereby saving time and reducing hassle for voluntary tax payers in the metropolis.
The Governor’s aide further said that the Lagos Revenue Portal was designed to promote ease of doing business within the state in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda of the Governor and his continuous drive to improve the quality of life for Lagosians.
Abdukabir Ogunbo was of the view that as the Portal continues to evolve, the state government remain committed to continuously improve it to meet the needs of citizens and businesses in the state.
The Special Adviser concluded that the LRP is a significant step towards modernizing revenue collection and administration stressing that it also promotes increase compliance, transparency and grow revenue for developmental projects.
Answering some of the questions at the media parley, Abdukabir Opeyemi Ogunbo cleared the air on cries of multiple taxation explaining that the constitution permit the three tiers of government to collect various taxes and levies from the citizens.
He also faulted claims in some quarters that that the state is not doing enough despite huge revenue collected saying there are ongoing projects across the metropolis to counter the position.
The Lagos Revenue Portal is expected to be launched next week by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
