PRESSS RELEASE
1st July, 2024.

ILLICIT ACTS, GANGSTERISM AND ILLEGAL PLOTS BY A UNION LEADER TO UNSEAT THE CURRENT PROVOST OF THE FEDERAL COLLEGE OF EDUCATION , TECHNICAL , AKOKA.

NO TO HIS REMOVAL AND THREAT TO HIS LIFE.
DR. WAHAB ADEMOLA AZEEZ DESERVES A SECOND TENURE

PRESS RELEASE.
1st July ,2024.

————————————
Our attention has been drawn to the impasse on the campus of Federal College of Education (Technical) Akoka, Lagos.
A group of staff led by a Union leader have recently formed not only a gang against the College Management but continuous intimidation and threat against the College Provost , Dr Wahab Ademola Azeez

The union leader is forcefully demanding for immediate eviction and removal of the Provost from his official duty.

The Union leader and his gang have been calling, shouting and disrupting the campus spaces and coercing other College stakeholders to join them to evict the respected, performing and highly resourceful Provost, Dr Ademola Azeez as to drag the College backward.

As Civil Organisations and Defenders of the masses, it’s incumbent on us to intervene to ensure peace returns to the campus without destruction to lives and properties.
It must be stressed that Dr Wahab Ademola was appointed the Provost based on his competency, qualification, integrity, hardwork and “omoluabis”.

Aggressiveness, using of vulgar language and gesture as well as
threat to lives of the provost and family and tarnishing of the image of the College as to hang the Provost is not only inimical to the College interest but also to the people and education sector in general.

How could a Union leader be interested in the removal of the Provost unjustifiably calls for concern.
No doubt it has a hand of external factors within.
We have taken time and painstakingly did our findings and discovered the Provost of the College, Dr Wahab Ademola Azeez has performed excellently as the Provost of the College and welfare of students and workers are paramount to him. This he has demonstrated through out his first tenure in office and this made him a toast of the students and workers except very few individuals.

What are the grudges of the few individuals using unionism as a tool to attack the Provost? Nothing, other than his re-appointment for a second tenure. The question to ask is if the law which establishes the office of the Provost make provision for a second tenure in office? It does, definitely, Dr Ademola Azeez having performed excellently well deserves a second tenure.

Unionism is meant to protect rights and welfare of workers and not to be used to vandalise College properties and creating a hostile and intimidating environment disrupting College operations.

OUR DEMANDS

* Second tenure in office of Dr. Ademola Azeez should be ratified by the authority in the interest of the College development, students and peace loving workers of the institution.
*Increase Security measures including surveillances on campus patrols.
*Immediate response from the Government to wade off unlawful activities and continuous College disruption by the union leader.
*All law abiding workers of the institution and students as a whole should be protected from attacks by the union leader.
*Security apparatus to protect the Provost and his family should be fortified.

May we also use this medium to appeal to the union leader to remove the toga of violence which has no link with unionism and embrace dialogue.
Dr Wahab Ademola Azeez, the Provost is a leader that listens to opinions of the people before taking any decision. Therefore, those using the Union to intimidate the Provost should desist forthwith and give peace a chance.

We say, Dr Wahab Ademola Azeez should be allowed to peacefully run the institution in the interest of the students, parents, workers and society at large.
