NUJ Lagos Sets To Hold Ramadan Lecture
Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council is set to hold the maiden edition of Ramadan Lecture themed: “Islam and Sanctity of Life”.
The lecture slated for Tuesday 19th, March 2024, will be held at the Combo Hall, Lagos Television (LTV) complex, Alausa Lagos.
Chief Missioner, Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Sheikh Abdurrahman Ahmad, will speak on the topic “Protecting the Sanctity of the Ummah”, while a Mathematics lecturer at Lagos State University (LASU) and the winner of the Overall Best PhD Thesis Award, University of Lagos, Dr Aminat Olawunmi Ige-Ariyibi would speak on “Mitigating marital discord occasioned by economic crisis”.
Chairman, NUJ, Lagos, Adeleye Ajayi, at the Pre-Ramadan Lecture 2024 press conference in Lagos said the programme was initiated to bring the people closer to God and repent of their sins, and be good to their neighbours.
Ajayi said: “The NUJ in recognition of the enormous spiritual opportunities and benefits inherent in this holy month, is organizing the programme in unison with our Muslim colleagues, members and media practitioners in particular and the entire Muslim world as a whole.
“On the day, the 19th 0f March, 2024, Guest Speakers of great clout, intellectual and spiritual weight have been invited to do justice to the topics that address issues having to do with sanctity of our system as whole.
He said students from our public schools have been invited to bless the audience with readings from the glorious Quran.
“The first, second and third best reciters will be appreciated with tokens from the Union, So also, packs of food gifts to the breakfast will be given to not less than two thousand fasting Muslims” he said.
Ajayi urged Muslims to use the opportunity of Ramadan to pray for Nigeria to survive the present economic and social challenges and bounce back the much better.
“Pray for the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Local Government leaderships and members of their respective cabinets to succeed.
“Lagos State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists identifies with the entire people of Nigeria and pray that Allah accepts all our individual and collective prayers by making the efforts our leaders are currently making yield positive results,” he stated.
Chairman of the Ramadan Lecture Committee, Jamiu Alonge, said the Lagos State Council of NUJ is identifying with Muslim faithful and spirit of the season which is comprised of many virtuous deeds such as feeding the poor and needy, drawing closer to Allah through reading and learning the Quran, abandoning all that are evil and embracing righteous path. Prayers are answered, sins are wiped off, and bad destinies are changed to good ones in this holy month.
Ramadan is one of the twelve Arabic months. It is a month which is venerated in the Islamic religion, and it is distinguished from the other months by a number of characteristics and virtues.
Former General Manager, Lagos State Television, Shina Elegbede, applauded NUJ for the initiative, urging both Muslims and Christians to use the fasting period to forge a good society for all, and engage in activities that will reduce tension in the country.
He called for fear of God in all endeavours, emphasizing that everyone will account for his deeds in the hereafter.
General Secretary, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, Tunde Olalere, said the programme has come to stay and it would be held yearly to sensitise the people about embracing good deeds and forbidden evil.
